The Theatre at Schonbrunn Palace, Vienna

Rare Operetta to be Performed at
Schonbrunn Palace in August 2008.

Operetta lovers will have the opportunity to experience a rare treat in Vienna this summer. “Die Drei Wunsche” (“The Three Wishes”) is to receive two concert performances at the exquisite theatre at Schonbrunn Palace on 3rd and 10th August 2008.

Music is by Carl Michael Ziehrer (1843-1922), Vienna’s last Waltz King, who was in his time a rival to Johann Strauss. The operetta was first performed at the Carltheater, Vienna, in 1901.

The action is set in the world of theatre and is full of comic intrigue. A superb international cast, including Renate Holm, has been assembled to give full justice to the music and comedy of this rare masterpiece. The performances will be conducted by Herbert Mogg.

The magnificent theatre at Schonbrunn dates from 1747. Situated in the western wing of the Palace it was originally used by the Empress Maria Theresia for private performances.

The theatre was refurbished by Napoleon in 1809 and electric lighting was installed in 1898. Johann Strauss’s masterpiece “Die Fledermaus” is also being performed here throughout July and August.
