Overlooking Lake Wolfgang, Salzkammergut
The Salzkammergut region of Austria is an area of spectacular lakes and stunning mountain scenery. "The Sound of Music", starring Julie Andrews, was filmed at numerous locations in the region. At the heart of the Salzkammergut is the very beautiful Spa Town of Bad Ischl - home to the famous Lehar Operetta Festival. Each Summer fully professional operetta productions are staged, along with numerous free concerts of music by composers such as Strauss, Lehar, Kalman, Stolz, Zeller, Millocker and many more!
The main Festival Productions for Summer 2012 are:
"Gypsy Love" ("Zigeuner Liebe") - Operetta by Franz Lehar.
"The Bird Seller" ("Der Vogelhandler") - Operetta by Carl Zeller.
The "Kaiser Gala" - a grand concert (similar to the New Year's Day Concert from Vienna) in celebration of the birthday of Emperor Franz Josef takes place on August 16th 2012.
Bad Ischl is around one hour's drive from Salzburg, historic City of Music, and birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Franz Lehar, composer of "The Merry Widow", lived in Bad Ischl for almost 30 years. He died there in 1948. His villa has been preserved as he left it and can be visited today. Lehar's private art collections, personal effects, plus musical and theatrical memorabilia are all on display there.
Johannes Brahms, Anton Bruckner, Oscar Straus, Johann Strauss, and Richard Tauber also owned villas in the town. Emmerich Kalman and Robert Stolz were also regular visitors to the area.

- Tickets to see both of the Festival Productions of Lehar's Operetta "Gypsy Love" and "The Bird Seller" by Carl Zeller. (The holiday price shown below is based on mid category tickets. If you would prefer a different category just let us know).
If your stay in Bad Ischl includes 16th August 2012 then tickets to the wonderful "Kaiser Gala" concert can also be included (at additional charge).
- You are invited for a drink prior to your booked performances when we will outline the synopsis and provide background information on the production you are going to see. (Drinks included).
- Travel by private transport for a full day in Salzburg where you can visit, at your leisure, Mozart's home or his birthplace Museum; one of the many beautiful Baroque palaces and gardens; the imposing Mediaeval Fortress; perhaps even a daytime concert or performance, or simply wander around the historic streets of the Old Town, browsing the huge selection of traditional shops and cafes. (Entrance fees to museums or concerts are not included so that you can select your own places to visit at your own pace).
- Journey by boat across Lake Wolfgang to visit the beautiful lakeside villages of St. Wolfgang (Home of the famous "White Horse Inn", and setting for the Operetta of the same name) and St. Gilgen.
