5 or 7 nights in a specially selected hotel in the beautiful Spa Town of Baden, near Vienna, with the opportunity to attend performances at the Baden Operetta Festival in July / August 2012.

The beautiful Spa Town of Baden is situated only 16 miles from Vienna. To the North and West are the Vienna Woods, and a luscious wine growing area of over 150 vineyards lies to the South and East. Baden has a very elegant and serene atmosphere all of its own. There is a rich variety of palaces and mansions; elegant shops and cafes; glorious parks and gardens; healing baths and springs and many sports and leisure facilities.
Music is everywhere in Baden - Beethoven, Strauss and Lanner all had villas here. Mozart, Liszt, Carl Ziehrer, Franz Schubert, Carl Zeller and Karl Millocker were all frequent visitors. Beethoven's residence is now a museum and amongst its treasures is the composer's own pianoforte, which is still kept in playing order and visitors are sometimes invited to play!
Each summer the famous Baden Operetta Festival draws thousands of visitors from around the world. Operettas are performed in the "Summer Arena", a traditional style theatre dating from 1906. The building has a unique feature that makes it a perfect venue for beautiful warm summer evenings - the roof is made up of sliding glass panels that can be rolled back so that the auditorium is open to the stars!
The main productions at the Baden Operetta Festival in summer 2012 are:
"Countess Maritza" - Operetta by Emmerich Kalman.
"The Three Musketeers" - Revue-Operetta by Ralph Benatzky.
It is also possible to attend performances of "The Land of Smiles" or "The Polish Wedding" or various concerts in Vienna whilst staying in Baden as there is an excellent tram service from Baden to the centre of Vienna that operates throughout the day until very late at night.
For independent travellers that wish to hire a car then it would also be possible to visit the Operetta Festival at Morbisch for a performance of "Die Fledermaus" or the Opera Festival at St. Margarethen for a performance of "Carmen".
The 24 piece Kur Orchestra also performs free open air concerts of light classical music, including operetta selections, in the KurPark 3 or 4 days a week throughout the summer (weather permitting).
